Tobacco 21 Alliance

The Tobacco 21 Alliance, which the Irish Cancer Prevention Network is a member of, welcomed the recent approval by the Cabinet for Ireland to become the first country in the EU to introduce Tobacco 21 and raise the legal age of sale from 18 to 21. Since 2022, the Tobacco 21 Alliance has worked with Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and the Minister of State Colm Burke in advocating for Ireland to take this historic step. As we mark 20 years since the landmark workplace smoking ban, it is timely that Ireland recaptures that same ambition by protecting young people from the dangers of smoking. Every member of the Tobacco 21 Alliance would urge the government to enact this legislation without delay to increase the legal age of sale of all tobacco products from 18 to 21.
