The SunSmart for Outdoor Workers Webinar
The HSE’s National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) hosted a free public webinar to increase awareness of how to be SunSmart on Tuesday 28th of April. The webinar highlighted the importance of UV protection in the workplace for outdoor worker organisations.
Presentations included:
- Driving for work: Sun safety guidance by Dr Roisin Rynne, Dermatology Registrar at Tallaght University Hospital
- Sun safety awareness project on lifeguards in Galway by Dr Melissa Canny, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, HSE West.
- Case study on sun protection for outdoor workers by Sinead Gaines, EHS Regional Manager, PJ Hegarty
- Overview of resources/supports for outdoor workers by Barbara McGrogan, Medical Scientist, HSE NCCP
Sunbeds: What You Need to Know About the Risks to Your Health 2026 webinar
The HSE National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) ran a free live webinar for the public on Wednesday, 20 May, aimed at raising awareness of the significant health risks associated with sunbed use. Presentations included:
- Selene Daly Tarpey, Nurse Tutor HSE Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Education Sligo Leitrim West Cavan on Health risks associated with sunbed use & prevention, alternatives & healthy choices
- Alannah Goggins, Senior Environmental Health Officer with the National Environmental Health Service, HSE on An overview of The Public Health (Sunbeds) Act 2014 and how the Legislation is enforced by the Environmental Health Service of the HSE
- Dr Fabiola Creed, Research Associate, School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Glasgow on The psychology of sunbed use/ ‘’tanorexia’ addiction
