October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when the National Screening Service (NSS) raises awareness of BreastCheck, the free national breast screening programme for women aged 50 to 69. Throughout October, BreastCheck has been running a press, social and online campaign to give women the information they need to enable them to choose breast screening. They have been highlighting the importance of women taking up their first invitation to screening, as they know that uptake is lower among women being invited for their first screening test. Angela Walton was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram at her first screening with BreastCheck in March 2023 and she has shared her story to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
